By Tim Parker
Cory Amen was a beacon in the local arts community, known for his infectious enthusiasm and unwavering support for musicians and artists alike. He had a unique ability to connect with people, often seen with a camera slung over his shoulder, ready to capture the essence of live performances and the vibrant spirit of the local scene.
As a photographer for Tuningfork Magazine, Cory poured his heart into his work. He understood that every image told a story, and he was dedicated to showcasing the talent emerging from Saint Joseph and Kansas City. Whether it was a rising band playing in a small venue or an art exhibit in a local gallery, Cory was there, lens focused and heart wide open. He had an uncanny knack for finding beauty in the mundane, making every shot a masterpiece.
His passion for music was palpable. Cory didn’t just photograph concerts; he lived them. He would often be found mingling with artists, sharing stories, and encouraging them to pursue their dreams. He believed in the power of community and worked tirelessly to create connections among artists, fostering a supportive network that thrived on creativity and collaboration.
In June of 2023, tragedy struck when Cory lost his life unexpectedly. The news sent shockwaves through the community, leaving a void that felt impossible to fill. Friends and fellow musicians gathered to honor his memory, sharing stories of his kindness, laughter, and the countless ways he had touched their lives.
As they reminisced, it became clear that Cory's impact would never fade. His photographs adorned the walls of galleries, capturing moments that would live on forever. Local musicians dedicated songs to him, reminding everyone of the joy he brought to their lives. It was as if Cory had woven his spirit into the very fabric of the community he loved.
Cory Amen may have left this world, but his spirit continues to resonate in the hearts of those he touched. The local music and arts scene, which he so fervently supported, will forever carry his essence—a reminder of a great guy who believed in the beauty of creativity and the power of community.
